10 Billion Apps Downloaded – It’s Official

Well it’s finally official.  The 10,000,000,000th app was downloaded today and the winner of Apple’s race to 10 billion was a UK lady named Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent.  She won a $10,000 itunes gift card which I believe means she can get whatever she wants on her iphone.  What I find really interesting is the app that she downloaded which led to her winning the grand prize and Apple hitting 10 billion app downloads.  She downloaded a free app called Paper Glider.  That’s right, a free app.

With the news and anticipation of Verizon adding the iphone early next month I wonder what and when the race will be to 20 billion.  That’s a lot of apps and a lot of itunes store magic.
